Welcome to the World in the late XVII century.
This project was created to capture a snapshot of the world as it appeared in the late seventeenth century.
My method is simple: I collect articles from old atlases and books, study maps, and deliberately set aside modern sources.
By placing chapters from dozens of works into separate articles — each connected with hyperlinks — I aim to make exploration and analysis easier. The goal is to reconstruct the point of view of a person living in the late 1600s.
I hope this work will be useful for your own historical inquiries.

I’ve started adding maps and images—this work takes much of my after-work time.
If you read an article and spot something unusual (for example, a description or even coordinates of a “lost” city), please check the primary Sources listed at the bottom of the page. If it holds up, locate a non-OCR PDF of the original text and high-resolution scans (or, if needed, acquire the map itself). And verify a dozen times before you pick up a shovel. 🙂
