Of BITHINIA and the Cities thereof. ON the North side of the Phrygias is seated Bithinia, which is famoused first for the victory of Alexander against the Persians, of whom he slew 20000; secondly, for mount Stella, where Pompey overthrew Mithridates, and Tamberlain with 800000 Tartarians, encountred Baiaset with 500000, where 20000 lost their lives, and Baiaset in his pride of heart taken and •…end up in an iron cage, against whose barres he beate out his braines: thirdly, for Nice, where the first generall Counsell was held Anno 31•… to repell the Arian heresie; and fourthly, Calcedon, where the fourth generall Counsell was assembled to repell the Nestorian heresie, where yet in Anno 1620, the Inhabitants doe shew to strangers the place of this assembly by tradition in manner of an ovall circle built purposely for this occasion; and lastly, here is Bursa by some Prusa, the seat of the Ottoman Kings in Asia till they gained Adrianople in Europe, which was done by Mahomet the first: of the trade thereof a word in my passage.

Eastward of Pontus, Westward and North ward the Euxine Sea, & Phrygiaminor, whererein

1. Scutori well Garrisoned, and Orcharded with Maiden tower over against the Haven of Constantinople.
2. Nicomedia much frequented for its fresh springs, & pleasant plains.
3. Prusa or Brussa, the Turk's Imperial Seat before Adrianople, and now their Sepulture large and wealthy.
4. Poor Caleedon, where Constantine intended to build his Seat, but that Eagles carried the workmens lines to Bizantium, and where was the 4^th General Council, confisting of 530 Bishops against Nestorius.
5. Nice, now Neichia, or Isnichs, famous for two Councils held therein; one famous A. 314 by Constantine, the other by Errene.
